Admission Process

Applicable only to the learners
  • Who have completed 15 years of age are eligible for admission
  • Who are studying in a regular school or have already passed or failed 7th, 8th, and to 9th, and failed in 10th standard
  • Who are not able to attend regular school for various reasons, who wants to complete their education in 10th or 12th classes of age and some other reason
  • Learners can contact any recognized study center located nearby
  • Learners who are interested to join Karnataka Open School must submit their original school TC and their testimonials
  • Learners must submit 05 passport size photos and also proof of address, including Aadhaar Xerox copy

Selection of Subjects (Secondary Course)

There is flexibility in this system. The learner can select the subject of his/her own choice, aptitude and learning ability. The learner has to select 3 languages compulsorily.

Eligibility

Those who runs have an Educational organization / Schools, if they want to start a Study Centers, they should submit proposal to the KOS Head Office. Any institution which runs a schools and colleges, having educational facilities like library, laboratory and etc… can apply. The officials of Karnataka Open School will visit institutions to verify the facilities in the institution and will have a discussion with the management and the staff. If the norms are fulfilled recognition will be granted to such school / organization.

Organizations that can submit a proposal for Opening A Learning Centre

  • Government Schools and Private Educational Institutions (Aided / Unaided)
  • Private Trusts / NGOs aimed at recognized educational activities
  • Other organizations may seek permission from the said institutions to conduct learning center activities during holidays in educational institutions having basic facilities for conducting contact classes
  • Copy of Trust and Governing Body Profile and Bylaws
  • Copy of permission order issued by the Government for opening a school or college
  • Details of basic facilities in the institution
  • Details of active employees of the organization
  • Library and laboratory details
  • Affidavit / Certificate (Rs. 20/- on printed paper)
  • Administrative Board Transcripts (Regarding Opening of Learning Center and Appointment of Co-ordinators)

Registration Fee of the Learning Center

At the time of submitting proposal to Karnataka Open School, the schools / organization or NGOs has to deposit Rs. 5000/- which is not refundable.

Accreditation / Renewal of Learning Centres

Karnataka Open School scrutinizes the proposals received from the institutes, visits the site and the eligible institutes who have the desired facilities are given accreditation for opening the learning center initially for two years.

Accreditation will be renewed every two years if the learning centers perform satisfactorily

The learning study centers must strictly follow the circulars and guidelines issued by the Open University from time to time

Personal Contact Programmes (PCPs)

Thirty days PCPs classes will be organized by the KOS through learning study centers

  • Thirty classes are compulsory per subject
  • Five to Ten additional classes for subjects having practicals on face to face basis.
  • PCPs classes will be conducted generally on Weekends and Holidays.
  • PCPs will be conducted in the first year admission only.

Role of Co-ordinator

Each study center will have a coordinator. He /she is responsible for the smooth running of the center. The Study Learning center will provide following services…

  • Issuing Prospectus along with admission form at the prescribed cost.
  • Accepting the duly filled admission form and Examination Application form with requisite fee only
  • The co-ordinator’s will collect all the required documents from the learners.
  • Supply the study materials
  • Evaluating tutor marked assignments (TMAs)
  • Provide counseling to solve learners’ problems / doubts related to the course
  • Display of results of public examination and distributions of markscard / certificate, issued by state examination board KSEEB

Learning Materials

Karnataka Open School will supply learning materials to the study centers as soon as they remit the fees to study centers learners can collect these material from the coordinator of the concerned study centers.

Examination Process and Evaluation System

A learner can avail flexible system of examination


>  Examination will be conducted by Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board. (KSEAB) The public examination will be held once in a year with regular students in the month of March or April
> There is a provision for the failed students to appear for supplementary examination in month of July and August.
> Six attempts can be availed during the validity period of three years.
> Learner may appear in anyone or more subjects in anyone examination.

Value Of Examination Certificates

The marks card to the successful learner will be issued by Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board (KSEEB) and it is equivalent to regular SSLC as per the Government of Karnataka declared KOS Examination as equivalent to regular SSLC vide Government Order No. ED73 SLB 2006 Bangalore, dated 06.09.2006.

SSLC Board issues markscard, this certificate has facilitated to get jobs and to pursue higher education.

Examination

  • At the time of submitting a proposal to Karnataka Open School, the school management /NGO has to deposit of Rs. 5000/- (Five Thousand ) only non- refundable.

  • Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board will conduct examination on the lines of regular SSLC and issues marks card to the successful students.

  • Karnataka State Education Examination Board will conduct the examination once in a year on par with regular SSLC March / April. There is a provision for the failed students to appear for supplementary examination in the month of June. The marks card will be issued to the successful learners by the Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board.
